The Commission adopted in May 2014 a "Sustainable Blue Growth Agenda for the Baltic Sea Region". It calls for a stakeholder-driven, cross-Baltic approach to innovation, sustainability, skills and qualifications.

As a first step of this agenda, the European Commission will launch a Maritime Stakeholders' Platform on 26-27 March 2015 in Kiel, Germany. The Platform will bring together all key maritime stakeholders from business, academia and the public sector across the Baltic Sea region to discuss smart specialisation, maritime technologies and skills and employment.
