"Through our joint publication we would like to revive the spirit of the strategy’s beginnings and highlight the results of our cooperation through all those years. Indeed, we are better together."
Jacek Czaputowicz, Polish Minister for Foreign Affairs

On the occasion of the EUSBSR jubilee year, the Polish Ministry for Foreign Affairs has prepared an anniversary publication “Better together. 10 years of the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region”.

The publication is a joint effort of EUSBSR stakeholders and aims at showing the steps taken and results achieved during these past 10 years to save the Baltic Sea and to make the region more prosperous, innovative and better connected.

The publication provides a short introduction to the EUSBSR and summarises the Strategy in numbers. In addition, it takes the reader back in time and shows how it all began.

"The Baltic Sea Strategy is actually the first EU strategy to have originated in the European Parliament. It is the first EU policy initiative to get its start from those people democratically and directly elected by the citizens of the European Union

Toomas Hendrik Ilves, President of Estonia 2006-2016

Ten years is a long time, but is it enough to deliver results? The publication studies also the impact and outcomes of the EUSBSR, and what factors have contributed to the EUSBSR to be the most advanced macro-regional strategy in the EU. Each Policy Area and Horizontal Action is highlighted with success stories.

"Let the next decade open up more new opportunities for the Strategy!

Renate Bula, Latvian National Coordinator

Looking back would not be fruitful without also looking to the future - what have we learnt and how to use our experiences in the next 10 years or more? The future of the EUSBSR is addressed in the publication, too, and if we continue to work together, the outlook is definitely positive!
