Towards nutrient-efficient agriculture in the Baltic Sea region
Blue-algae rafts in the Baltic Sea have been a common gatecrasher in summer for many years. In addition, extreme weather conditions have been forecasted to be more regular in the future due to the climate change. Increasing precipitation and winters without snow cover will enhance soil erosion and nutrient leaching into the Baltic Sea, promoting eutrophication.

Extending the digital course towards eco-efficient maritime industry
In 2017, the EUSBSR flagship project ECOPRODIGI embarked on its three-year journey to find solutions for cleaner shipping in the Baltic Sea region. During the implementation, it became clear that there was still more to explore. This need for further exploration resulted in a continuation project EXOPRODIGI which was kicked of right after ECOPRODIGI finished.

Shared course towards cleaner shipping in the Baltic Sea region
Clean Shipping Project Platform (CSHIPP) was established to improve cross-sectoral collaboration and the utilisation of results and findings from several individual projects and organisations on a wider scale. As CSHIPP collaboration is now coming to an end, it’s time to look back and reflect a little bit on what has been achieved.

Project BEST improves management of industrial wastewater
EUSBSR Flagship Project BEST – Better Efficiency for Industrial Sewage Treatment – was completed at the end of September 2020. The flagship contributed to PA Nutri Action 2: Reduce nutrient emissions from urban areas and other point sources, and also implemented the horizontal aspect of cooperating with non-EU Member States by including water utility and industrial partners from Russia.
