The European Commission plays a key role within the EUSBSR. Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy (DG REGIO) provides strategic coordination and advice to the National Coordinators' Group on the managing and developing strategy and gives guidance to the Strategy actors on prioritising strategic frameworks and policies. It also strives to ensure that the EUSBSR is duly taken into account in the design and implementation of all relevant EU policies and financial instruments. Besides DG REGIO, several line DGs (inter alia DG MOVE, DG MARE, DG CLIMA, DG ENV, DG HOME) are also relevant stakeholders to the implementation of the EUSBSR at the thematic policy level and can participate in the relevant Policy Areas’ Steering Groups as strategic advisors and observers.
